Infections of and around the brain include brain abscess, meningitis, skull bone infection (osteomyelitis) from sinus infection (sinusitis), subdural empyema (pus in between the brain and its lining called the dura), and others. Bacteria may seed these areas through the bloodstream (for example, from a tooth abscess or other infection), extend from sinus infections, or other areas. Infections of these regions are rare, but can be life-threatening. Our practice has treated multiple such infections safely using various methods (see "Treatments and Testimonials" section), but early recognition and treatment remain key to a good prognosis.
