Cranioplasty, invoving reshaping or “filling in” of the skull after trauma, can be done using many techniques. We have used this technique in the setting of tumors involving the skull, accidents involving skull fractures, or infections requiring bone removal. Techniques include using a thin titanium mesh with small screws, using bone cement to mold the edges, or doing a custom-made acrylic mold based upon an image of a specific patient, to “custom-fit” an implant.
