Focused radiation for brain tumors has the advantage of concentrating radiation to kill or control a tumor deep within the brain while exposing the surrounding brain to much less dose of radiation. The concept is like focusing sunlight using a magnifying glass, focusing the heat on a point below. Used to create small holes or “lesions” in the brain, this method has been used to treat brain tumors (metastatic brain tumor, benign brain tumor, malignant brain tumors) arteriovenous malformations, trigeminal neuralgia, and others.
